DGHE student becomes new Academic Administration Officer

Posted on 25/03/23

Last summer, we had an addition to the DGHE Team: a new Academic Administration Officer! To improve our student experience at the college, we decided to hire from the best source: our students.

We had a quick chat with Dinais Tobi, our ex-student-new-team-member, and asked him a bit more about his experience at DGHE. Check it out.

Can you tell us more about your role at DGHE?

I am an academic administration officer. My shared responsibilities include managing the college’s virtual learning environment. This involves uploading course materials, creating submission links, setting up drop-in sessions and ensuring smooth operations. In summary, I play a supporting role in maintaining the college’s high professional and academic standards.

What made you apply?

I had just finished my studies at DGHE and was delighted to see the job opening. It aligned with my career goals and was a great opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills from studying business management. I have first-hand experience with the fantastic student support on offer at DGHE. So naturally, I wanted to be part of the team.

What have you learned during your course (or as a DGHE student) that has been helping you in your new role?

During my time as a student, I benefited from the hard work that DGHE staff put into promoting student experiences. My past experiences now help give context to my role and I am able to empathize with students.

What do you enjoy the most about working here?

There is a sense of family here at DGHE and I enjoy being part of a diverse and professional academic community.

Can you describe any specific instance when you faced a challenge in your scope of work with us that you were able to overcome by applying something you learned while studying with us?

As a student, I develop my time-management skills. This has been very useful, especially when dealing with tight deadlines.

How has your perspective of DGHE changed from being here as a student to being here as a staff member?

I have always had a positive experience at DGHE. Joining as a member of staff has reaffirmed my confidence in DGHE’s high academic and professional standards.

What advice would you give to the new students at DGHE?

My advice is to make the most of the support available to you. Pursue your passions and navigate your path through studies with resilience. We are here to support you in achieving the best outcomes.

We’re so glad to have Dinais onboard! Many of our staff used to be our students and we always encourage our alumni to apply for jobs listed at DGHE. You can find any job openings at DGHE by looking at the Meet Our Team pages and browsing Staff Vacancies in the side bar.
