College Facilities and Resources

DGHE is housed within David Game College (32-35 Jewry Street, EC3) and is a short walk from Aldgate and Tower Hill tube stations. In 2016/17, the college facilities underwent a major multi-million-pound refurbishment, and the campus now benefits from a modern, well-resourced, comfortable learning environment.

The classrooms are equipped with audio-visual equipment and comfortable seating with Wi-Fi access available throughout the building. There is a learning resources centre, IT suite, tutorial rooms, 200-seat auditorium, break-out area and café serving hot and cold food and beverages. Students also benefit from extensive online study materials available through the college’s virtual learning environment.

DGHE Library

The DGHE Library is a dedicated study space where students can work on their assignments, send their work to print, and borrow learning resources. Both computers and desk space are provided to support learning in a comfortable environment. The library is open from 9:00-21:00, Monday to Friday and from 9:00-17:00 on Saturdays, ensuring that all students have opportunities to use the library’s resources. DGHE’s Librarian is available at the library desk five days a week to help students locate learning materials from the library collection, conduct research, and reference books and articles correctly in their assignments. The college’s online learning environment provides extensive guidance to the library and learning resources.

The library collection features an extensive range of items, including books, magazines, and journal issues. The centre of the collection is the core textbooks and further reading. Our lecturers have selected a wide range of books that are tailored to the units they teach. Copies of these core texts are provided in proportion to student numbers for each course, ensuring all students have fair access to learning materials that will support their studies. Books can be borrowed for one week with automatic renewal when they are due back, allowing students to use the collection with confidence. If all borrowing copies of a given text are out of the library, students can place a reservation to ensure it is returned for them to collect. Reference copies of the library’s core collection provide students with access to a text when they drop in, allowing them to check textbooks for their assignments and make photocopies of key pages.
In addition to the physical collection, DGHE also works with our partner institutions to provide DGHE students with access to an extensive collection of online resources, including both ebooks and online journals.

IT Facilities & E-Learning Resources

DGHE has its own servers that support Internet and web-based applications throughout the College. All students and staff have free access to the web through Wi-Fi, and the College has an advanced filtering system that allows students to surf the web in a safe and secure manner. Students are allowed to bring their own tablets and laptops for independent study. Still, they must adhere to our IT and e-safety policy and respect teachers’ policies on the use of technology during lessons.

Auditorium

DGHE’s unique auditorium, which seats up to 200 people, is equipped with top-of-the-range technical facilities to support a whole range of events, from debates and lectures to conferences and media presentations.

If you’d like to book any of our auditoriums or facilities, please contact us at info@dghe.ac.uk

Student Canteen

DGHE has invested in improving and utilising room spaces by creating a larger canteen area for our students. The DGHE canteen provides students with facilities to eat their snacks or buy hot and cold drinks. It is also the ideal place for students to take a break from their studies and relax.

History

David Game College is in the heart of the City of London, near leading historic and modern landmarks such as Tower Bridge, the Tower of London, the Bank of England, Lloyds of London, the Gherkin, and numerous other skyscrapers. The skyline of the City of London has changed much over the last decade, but David Game College’s current building is steeped in history. In 2017, David Game College moved from its location in Notting Hill at 31 Jewry Street, EC3N 2ET, in the heart of the City of London.

The move from Notting Hill to the City realised a transformation in the size and ambition of David Game College. The current college is unique compared with other similar educational establishments – it has a large collection of contemporary paintings, including very well-regarded artists, such as Keith Grant and Edward Stone, that hang on the walls all over the college. This special feature brightens the college and provides a visual feast for those who love art as they move around the college.

The building

The foundation stone of the college building was laid in 1899 by the Bishop of London, and the building was designed by the award-winning architect A.W. Cooksey. The building was originally designed for education; it later became the City of London Polytechnic, which then became London Guildhall University. Following a series of mergers in 2002, the London Guildhall University became London Metropolitan University, which occupied the building until 2015; David Game College took over the tenancy in 2017.

Having been a university campus, David Game College has access to a large auditorium that takes up to 250 people, a small auditorium that takes 70, and over 80 large, high-ceiling classrooms, providing a real sense of space and scholastic atmosphere. Owing to its design and various original features, the building is Grade II listed and comes under English Heritage protection and oversight. It was listed in 1972 for its special architectural and historic features, such as its general design, red brick and Portland stone structure, and brown glazed bricks, which are distinct features on the lower part of the building.

At 58,000 sq ft, the building has enough space for the college to realise its ambitions and provide students with a first-rate educational experience. Some very interesting artefacts and features are present within the college as the building stands on the line of the Roman wall of Londinium, parts of which are present and protected in the basement of the college – the College magazine is called Londinium by association!

In addition to having parts of the Roman Wall, the College building also has a beautiful stained-glass window just near the main entrance that celebrates the heroic acts of those who fought and died in the First World War. This very noticeable and elegant feature is situated near the main entrance adjacent to the original staircase that takes you to Reception. During 2016-17, the Principal, Mr David Game, invested millions of pounds into the redevelopment of the building and brought it back to become a vibrant and modern educational establishment. It now has excellent facilities, including:

  • Three new purpose-build university-style laboratories
  • A spacious art room with excellent natural light
  • A photography suite and darkroom facilities
  • Two state-of-art computer rooms
  • A large study library
  • Two large university-sized lecture auditoriums
  • Gym
  • A large dance floor
  • A purpose-built canteen
